Like a light meter, a collimator is one of the essential tools for setting up and maintaining a professional reprographic workstation.
Pentalimator is a compact laser collimator for checking camera-to-plane alignment in reprographic setups — including optical-axis perpendicularity and lens-to-plane parallelism. It can be used with any reproduction system for flat artworks and documents, such as paintings, maps, posters and other oversized originals.
The device uses a calibrated perpendicular laser beam and a mirror plate mounted on the lens. The reflected beam shows the camera’s deviation from the working plane, allowing the operator to correct the camera or table position quickly — without adapters, complex calibration procedures or additional cables.
Simple optical alignment check
Pentalimator helps verify whether the camera sensor and lens plane are parallel to the table or reproduction surface, and whether the optical axis is perpendicular to that plane.
The laser base is placed on the working plane, while the mirror plate is mounted on the lens. The laser beam is projected towards the mirror and reflected back onto the surface of the collimator.
When the reflected beam returns to the laser source, the camera is correctly aligned to the working plane. If two red points are visible — the laser source and the reflected point — the camera or table position should be adjusted until both points meet.
This gives the operator a clear visual indication of alignment without complex measuring equipment.
Clear reference, simple correction
Pentalimator uses a low-energy laser reference for controlled alignment checks in reprographic environments.
The operator observes the position of the reflected laser point and adjusts the camera head or working plane until the beam returns to the source. A geared photographic head or precision camera head makes this correction especially convenient, because the camera can be adjusted in separate axes.
The device is powered by a built-in rechargeable battery located in the base. During use, no external power supply or signal cable is required. This keeps the working area clear and makes the tool easy to place on different workstations.
Charging is done via Micro-USB using the supplied cable (the charger is not included).

The Pentalimator body and mirror plate are CNC-machined from aluminium, then polished and anodized in graphite colour. This gives the device a clean technical finish while keeping the construction rigid and durable.
The reflective surfaces are made from polished stainless steel rather than glass. This makes the tool safer to handle in daily studio work and more resistant to damage during transport, setup and storage.
All surfaces that may come into contact with the camera lens or the photographed object are finished with cork. This protects delicate equipment and originals during setup and alignment checks.
The mirror plate is attached to the camera lens with adjustable rubber cords. This simple mounting method allows it to fit almost any lens without dedicated adapters, while keeping the setup quick and easy for the operator.

Pentalimator is useful wherever camera-to-plane alignment matters. It helps the operator quickly verify whether the camera is perpendicular to the working plane before capture begins.
This is especially important when the camera position is adjusted frequently, when different lenses or camera bodies are used, or when the working distance changes between projects. A quick alignment check helps keep geometry, focus and repeatability under control.
Pentalimator can be used with Reprobot reprographic equipment such as the MRC900 motorized column and LB275.M lightbox, as well as with other camera-based digitization systems.
